Basil Essential Oil
Basil is named from the Greek Basileum meaning King, because it was used to anoint rulers. This is a stimulating oil used to clarify thoughts and counteract fatigue. It is often recommended for head tension and makes a warming inhalation for the chest. It has an affinity for the digestive system.
Source: Ocimum basilicum is grown in Europe, The Mediterranean, Pacific Islands and America.
Extraction: Basil essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the flowering Sweet Basil plant.
Aroma: Basil essential oil has a warm, sweet and spicy scent.
Uses: Massage, baths and inhalation. The smell of sweet Basil in the bath will lift your spirits.
Blends well with: Bergamot, Black Pepper, Cedarwood, Fennel, Ginger, Geranium, Grapefruit, Lavender, Lemon, Marjoram, Neroli and Verbena.
Caution: Basil essential oil is potent and may cause skin irritation in some people. Do not use in concentrations greater than 1%. Avoid during pregnancy.
