Sandalwood Essential Oil
Sandalwood has been used since the 5th century and is known as the oil of divinity as it is believed to carry prayers or wishes heavenward. In aromatherapy it is helpful for individuals who overwork and find it difficult to switch off. It has a beneficial effect on dry and sensitive skin.
Source: Most Santalum album oil comes from India, but it is also cultivated in Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Indonesia.
Extraction: Sandalwood essential oil is extracted from the roots and heartwood of the tree.
Aroma: Sandalwood essential oil has a deep fruity-sweet, woody scent.
Uses: Massage, baths, inhalation, vaporisation and compress.
A few drops in a hot bath make one of the most soothing sensual soaks that will liberate both mind and body.
It makes the most relaxing body massage and is particularly good for any patches of rough, dry skin. Inhaled with steam or as a poultice it may help to loosen congestion.
Blends well with: Benzoin, Bergamot, Black Pepper, Chamomile, Cistus, Clary Sage, Clove, Geranium, Grapefruit, Fennel, Frankincense, Jasmine, Lavender, Lemon, Mandarin, Myrrh, Neroli, Oakmoss, Orange, Palmarosa, Patchouli, Rose, Rosewood, Tuberose, Vetiver and Ylang Ylang.
Caution: Sandalwood essential oil is perfectly safe for home use as long as it is diluted before application.
